America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 authorized both the new series of circulating commemorative quarter dollars as well as an accompanying silver bullion investment product—the same designs as the quarters but weighing 5 troy oz. of pure (.999 fine) silver, and a whopping diameter of 3 inches. These are the largest legal tender coins ever issued by the United States! 56 different designs will be issued over the course of 12 years, at the rate of 5 coins per year, each featuring a National Park or National Historic Site from a different state, district, or U.S. territory. When the first five coins in the series were released there was a stampede by collectors and investors to purchase them.
