In 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned noted sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to redesign the entire American coinage spectrum from the Cent to the Double Eagle. Only his designs for the Eagle and Double Eagle were eventually produced as coins. The obverse features the head of Ms. Liberty wearing a feathered warbonnet, while the reverse standing eagle is reminiscent of ancient Egyptian art. These were issued through 1933, when the United States went off the Gold Standard. You will receive coins produced at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark), San Francisco Mint (“S” mint mark), and/or the Denver Mint (“D mint mark); the mint mark is located to the left of “TEN.” Each Indian Eagle $10 gold coin contains .537 troy oz. of .900 fine gold (net weight of .4837 troy oz. of pure gold).
A note about the grades: Select circulated coins will grade Extremely Fine or better, with gentle even wear. Mint State 63 and 64 coins are in certified holders graded by either PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) or NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation); an MS-63 coin is strictly uncirculated with nice luster and choice surfaces; an MS-64 coin is brilliant uncirculated with near-gem surfaces and minimal contact marks.
